Are you going to tell your home inspector to be sure and include a search for mold as part of the inspection process? Chances are, you will be wasting your time. Here's why. Mold is a naturally occurring organism present almost everywhere, including your house and the house you intend to buy. There are many kinds of molds, but all of them require one essential ingredient to become a problem--water. Control water leaks in the plumbing, roof and walls of the house, and the chances are you will reduce mold to a relatively benign level. If you've had allergic reactions to excessive mold, ask your home inspector to pay special attention to evidence of water leaks. Mold gets out of control whenever leaks are out of control. Areas of high humidity and houses with faulty air conditioning can also contribute to mold. Your home inspector can help you head off a potential problem. Not all home inspectors are equal. Some are much more knowledgeable and have more experience in making inspections. Since a good home inspection can save you thousands of dollars, its always best to interview several before choosing which one will work for you.
