There are several good ways to find a home inspector. First, most states require that home inspectors be licensed. You can go to the regulatory agency and ask the agency for a list of home inspectors for your market area. Second, at the national and state level there are professional associations for home inspectors. The better home inspectors will belong to at least one of these organizations. Professional associations provide knowledge, training, and in some case certification. Two such organizations are the National Association for Certified Home Inspectors and the American Society of Home Inspectors. Third, don't forget about that old stand by--the yellow pages of the phone book. Finally, you can ask your real estate agent for a list of good home inspectors. Not all home inspectors are equal. Some are much more knowledgeable and have more experience in making inspections. Since a good home inspection can save you thousands of dollars, its always best to interview several before choosing which one will work for you.
